Typography is an art form that is often overlooked and under appreciated. A good type designer needs only letter forms to evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Now, most of us are not typographers. In this age of desktop publishing and free font archives we sometimes forget about the subtle nuances of organizing and modifying type. When designing buttons there are a few rules of typography to keep in mind.

You spent hours searching the interweb for the perfect artwork for your buttons. Finally, while browsing Google images you come across the perfect picture. You right click, save it to your desktop, and quickly drop it into one of our button templates. The image is a little too small, so you enlarge it just a bit and save. Proud of your new found graphic design skills you send off your button art confident that you've created the worlds greatest button.

Great news! Our 2" square die is back from being serviced and we are now offering 2" diamond and square, buttons and magnets again!

We're also looking into offering 2" square/diamond mirrors and 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangular mirrors.  Let us know what you think!

New Website

It's been a few months since we last updated our blog, but we have a good reason! We've been working really hard on launching this new website. We've redesigned everything from the over all look and feel down to the shopping cart. We've taken into account suggestions from our loyal customers and really feel that we've made a big improvement.

 We've grown a lot over the past six months. We've added new button machines, sizes and shapes, all the while without sacrificing our commitment to quality custom buttons and excellent customer service. We've set up a new phone line, 330.BUTTONS, added a live help operator to the website, and a new contact form to the website. These are just some of the many improvements we've made. Buttons have been an important part of American politics since day one. Would it surprise you to learn that George Washington wore a campaign button? It's true. Almost every American President had campaign buttons of some sort, from Abraham Lincoln to most recently Barack Obama.

Though the button that GW wore was a brass button sewn to his coat. It wasn't until the 1860's that a likeness of a candidate would appear on a button. President Lincoln's campaign had buttons made using tinytype or ferrotype photo process. During the 1 890s that the first mass produced campa ign buttons hit the o f William McKinley. McKinley's buttons were produced much like buttons Just Buttons produces today, a metal shell i s covered with a piece of printed paper, which is then covered by a protective layer of plastic and pressed together. It was around this time that a Newark NJ based company, Whitehead and Hoag patented buttons.

Lithographed buttons grew in popularity during the 1940s, most notably in the 1940's presidential election. Millions o f political slogan buttons were produced in response to FDR and the news surrounding him at the time.
